Even today, I still find the old mode7 graphics from the SNES fascinating.
Fortunately the theory of mode7 is actually relatively simple.

It’s more than achievable in Flash 7, though it can look a bit ‘jagged’
Simply break your 2d image up into slices and descrease the scale the further the y-axis.

However, Flash 8’s new Bitmap functions can breathe new life into this technique, far more impressive than the SNES games of old.

The mode 7 technique is well documented but I adapted it to use one of the original pilot wings maps:

Click the image - and hold and move the mouse to fly.  Altitude control with cursor keys.

…and then I got carried away and added a google earth image, so I could fly over my own house.
